Notes |
- () William Henry Jones, Jr. was born in 1913 to William Henry Jones and Atha Hope Engle Jones. Pictures taken as a child show a happy, outgoing child, and as he grew up loved practical jokes. One joke involved placing a donkey inside of his father's construction work yard.
He was baptized in the First Christian Church on February 17, 1926. (letter from Pastor Demmers)
He played the "bones," which are two pieces of bone, about 5-6 inches long, held in the fingers of one hand and shaken to produce rhythm. During the 1920's he played in the Sanger City Band, as well as in a dance band, and marched in parades.
William was married to Geraldine Crow and had one daughter, Juanita Josephine, who was born October 12, 1935. They lived on Tait Street, across the street from W.H. Jones.
The Sanger Herald printed the following on January 8, 1943: "Home for the week-end from the bay area where they are employed in defense work were W. H. Jones, Jr, and Donald W. Jones. Mrs. W.H. Jones, Jr. has resigned her position in the office of the Producer's Cotton Oil Company in Fresno in anticipation of moving to the coast as soon as living accommodations are available in that locality."
The family did move to the bay area and spent the war years there. Geraldine worked, but Bill was already too ill. He was admitted to Stockton State Hospital in September, 1947. Three years, 2 months, and seventeen days later he died. The immediate case of death was listed as peritonitis, caused by a perforated secum. Bill's widow said that a fellow-inmate had punched him in the stomach, causing the injury which led to his death. His body was buried in Belmont Cemetery near his father, mother, brother and sister.[bakupftm.FTW]
